Title:Nature Encounters

Description:

Each Saturday the Ohio Bird Sanctuary offers free "Nature Encounters".  Come enjoy a short presentation by one of the volunteers or staff starring one of the resident birds that have come to the sanctuary and could not be released back into the wild after rehabilitation.

You will learn about the species, what they eat, how they hunt, how they live, and their typical activities in the wild.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a 501(3) non-profit organization which is dedicated to the rehabilitation of Ohio's native birds of prey and songbirds, with an emphasis on educating the community about conservation of our natural resources.

The Bird Sanctuary is open to the public and encompasses over 90 acres including; hiking trails, live bird of prey displays, and a walk-through songbird aviary. Visitors can purchase a small cup of meal worms in the Visitor Center and hand feed the aviary residents.

  • Sunday - Noon to 4:00pm

Title:Mansfield OH Parkrun

Parkrun organizes free, timed 5k runs every week in over 900 locations around the world. Same time, same place and at no cost. Ever. Free one-time registration gives you a unique bar code which is used to track participation and your run times. Parkrun is open to all - young, old, runners, walkers, joggers.

Mansfield, Ohio, Parkruns are a free, non-competitive 5K every Saturday (starting Jan. 21) from North Lake Park at 9 am. All ages and abilities welcome.

We invite you to join us January 21 at any participation level that is comfortable for you. Meet new friends or dedicate that time to be active on your own. Run, walk or jog there is no requirement!

What is Mansfield OH parkrun?

It is a 5km run - it's you against the clock.

When is it?

Every Saturday at 9:00am (October through April)
8:00am (May through September).

Where is it?

The event takes place at North Lake Park, 270 Rae Ave, Mansfield, OH 44903. .See Course page for more details

What does it cost to join in?

Nothing - it's free! but please register before your first run. Only ever register with parkrun once. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won't get a time.

How fast do I have to be?

We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!

The Ohio Summer Fair is a new fair celebrating the kick off of Summer in Ohio!


 

 

The Ohio Summer Fair will be held at the Mansfield Motor Speedway located at 400 Crall Rd E. Mansfield, Ohio.

June 21st to June 23rd, 6pm - 11pm
June 24th, 1pm - 11pm

The fair will offer a variety of enjoyable features for families including games, carnival foods and thrilling rides for both adults and children. 

General Admission in the fair covers/includes access to unlimited rides and entertainment at no extra costs!  Fair games, food and beverage are available for additional charges.

Title:2017 Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio

With the slogan, “Some people collect art, we race it,” the Vintage Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio featuring Sportcar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) is a perfect curtain raiser for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course’s 2017 racing season.

SVRA is one of the fastest growing segments of auto racing in North America. Cars from 11 SVRA racing groups bearing iconic names like Lola, Ferrari, Mustang, Triumph Spitfire, Trans-Ams and Aston Martin will bring their special brand of excitement and exhilaration to Mid-Ohio for a weekend rich in motorsports – past, present and future.

This will be the 35th consecutive year that SVRA visits historic Mid-Ohio.

Children 12 years old and under are admitted for free. Admission covers entry to all spectator areas, paddock access and parking. Guests can stroll the paddock to see the cars up close and chat with the drivers. Fans and entrants can shop the vendors row offering all types of racing clothing, photos and memorabilia.

Title:OSR Public Ghost Hunt

Description:

Saturday, June 24th the Ohio State Reformatory offers Ghost Hunts®;  serious yet informal attempts to document paranormal activity at the castle-like, former prison. Ghost Hunts provide an unusual, first-hand experience to search other realms. Ghost Hunts at OSR are the first of their kind in the United States.

Public Hunt admission is $70* per person and includes access to the building from 7:00 pm until 1:00 am and a late dinner of pizza and soda.  Complimentary water, soda, coffee and hot chocolate available throughout the evening.

  • Gates open 6 pm
  • Check in at the Gift Shop between 6 pm - 7 pm
  • Guided tour of facility 7 pm - 8 pm 
  • Independent investigating 8 pm - 3 am
  • Must be 18 and over to participate

*The building contains hazards including, but not limited to steep steps, uneven surfaces, and lead-based paint.  It is not recommended for pregnant women. Sleeping during a hunt is prohibited. All participants will be required to sign in at check in and present a valid photo ID.

*Any changes to participant registration can be made at the registration table on the day of the hunt. Replacement participants must be at least 18 years of age and provide a photo ID.

*Please note, there are no physical tickets for ghost events. An email confirmation is sent automatically to the person who registered. All registered participants will check in with a photo ID.

Title:Mansfield Children's Festival

Description:

The Free Annual Mansfield Children's Festival celebrates kids and community in downtown Mansfield!



 

Come downtown and celebrate a free family fun filled day with games, prizes, food, and entertainment for children of all ages on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm!

Jim Gill, a nationally known children's entertainer will start performing at 10:00 am SHARP for 30 minutes.  He will be at the Carrousel on 4th Street and the children will be sitting on the grassy lawn.  After his performance, the Mansfield Children's Festival will officially open by allowing children and families to visit the booths for crafts and information.

Carrousel rides FREE all day until 5:00pm for ages 14 and under, adults just a dollar a rides.

Richland Carrousel Grill will be serving Hot Dogs $1.50 and Brats $2.50.  There will also be pop, juice, popcorn, chips, etc. available for $1.

The Children's Festival will also be sharing the downtown streets with the North Central Soap Box Derby and the Renaissance Rock 'n' Roll Car Festival.

Hosted by the North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC), local artist Juli Parsons will lead a painting workshop at the Blust Avenue Teaching Garden this Saturday, June 24th from 7pm-9pm. The subject for this event will be daisies.

We'll provide the painting supplies as well as some light refreshments. You bring your favorite adult beverage to enjoy while you paint with us!

Title:Operation SOS-Save Our Streams

Hosted by Mansfield Storm Water Management, Operation Save Our Streams is an annual effort to clean up our streams.


Litter and debris that is scattered along our streets by careless motorists, pedestrians and residents enter into our streams through storm drains.

Illegal dumpings, litter and debris contribute to numerous problems from potential flooding to affecting our water quality.

Join us for a stream clean up on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. as we clean up the stream at John Todd Park.

Volunteers are asked to wear water resistant boots and don't forget the bug spray. Gloves and bags are provided by the city of Mansfield Engineering Department.

All participants will be entered into a drawing for prizes as part of our 21st Annual Earth Stewardship Celebration.
