Title:Nature Encounters

Description:

Each Saturday the Ohio Bird Sanctuary offers free "Nature Encounters".  Come enjoy a short presentation by one of the volunteers or staff starring one of the resident birds that have come to the sanctuary and could not be released back into the wild after rehabilitation.

You will learn about the species, what they eat, how they hunt, how they live, and their typical activities in the wild.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a 501(3) non-profit organization which is dedicated to the rehabilitation of Ohio's native birds of prey and songbirds, with an emphasis on educating the community about conservation of our natural resources.

The Bird Sanctuary is open to the public and encompasses over 90 acres including; hiking trails, live bird of prey displays, and a walk-through songbird aviary. Visitors can purchase a small cup of meal worms in the Visitor Center and hand feed the aviary residents.

  • Tuesday through Saturday - 10:00am to 4:00pm
  • Sunday - Noon to 4:00pm

Title:Gary Zuercher, The Glow of Paris

Description:

Gary Zuercher, professional photographer and author of The Glow of Paris, The Bridges of Paris at Night, will be at the Mansfield Art Center this month! He will be there from 7:00 to 9:00 on the evening of January 21 for a book signing and Opening Reception of his The Glow of Paris Exhibition.

The book signing at the Opening Reception is the only appearance Zuercher will be able to make during the exhibition, so be sure to attend. He is planning to leave for Paris shortly after. If you would like a signed copy, but are unable to make the Opening Reception, you may purchase a book in advance and the Mansfield Art Center will be pleased to have it autographed for you!

The Glow of Paris Exhibition is a collection of 86 black and white photographs by Zuercher. These photographs, in the Ansel Adams Tradition, will be on display at the Mansfield Art Center from January 21 through February 27.

The Mansfield Art Center hours are Tuesday to Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm

Title:OSR Public Ghost Hunt

Description:

Saturday, January 21st the Ohio State Reformatory offers Ghost Hunts®;  serious yet informal attempts to document paranormal activity at the castle-like, former prison. Ghost Hunts provide an unusual, first-hand experience to search other realms. Ghost Hunts at OSR are the first of their kind in the United States.
 

Public Hunt admission is $70* per person and includes access to the building from 7:00 pm until 1:00 am and a late dinner of pizza and soda.  Complimentary water, soda, coffee and hot chocolate available throughout the evening.

  • Gates open 6 pm
  • Check in at the Gift Shop between 6 pm - 7 pm
  • Guided tour of facility 7 pm - 8 pm 
  • Independent investigating 8 pm - 3 am
  • Must be 18 and over to participate

*The building contains hazards including, but not limited to steep steps, uneven surfaces, and lead-based paint.  It is not recommended for pregnant women. Sleeping during a hunt is prohibited. All participants will be required to sign in at check in and present a valid photo ID.

The Nature Center will be rockin’! The Crawford Park District invites you to stop by to see various rock, mineral, and gem displays from local collectors and members of the Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society this Saturday, January 21st 2017 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Crawford Park District is also partnering with the Ohio History Connection. Ohio History Connection is providing a display of Ice Age mammal remains, including bones/casts of mastodons, stag moose, and more. The Ice Age Mammal exhibit will remain on display at the Nature Center through February 10.

Bring your rocks and gems for identification and prepare to have a rockin’ good time.

Richland County Fairgrounds will be hosting Heritage Arms, LLC Gun Show in Fairhaven Hall on January 21 & 22, 2017 from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Heritage Gun Shows currently promotes gun shows in Cambridge, Mansfield, North Canton, and East Canton Ohio.

You won't see much that's not related to the hunting and shooting sports. Most of our shows will have some military surplus and similar merchandise, because so much of this type of gear is useful in the field.

Admission is $5. In keeping with our view that the shooting sports are great family pastimes, children 12 and under get in free.

Parkrun organizes free, timed 5k runs every week in over 900 locations around the world. Same time, same place and at no cost. Ever. Free one-time registration gives you a unique bar code which is used to track participation and your run times. Parkrun is open to all - young, old, runners, walkers, joggers.

Mansfield, Ohio, Parkruns are a free, non-competitive 5K every Saturday (starting Jan. 21) from North Lake Park at 9 am. All ages and abilities welcome.

We invite you to join us January 21 at any participation level that is comfortable for you. Meet new friends or dedicate that time to be active on your own. Run, walk or jog there is no requirement!

What is Mansfield OH parkrun?

It is a 5km run - it's you against the clock.

When is it?

Every Saturday at 9:00am (October through April)
8:00am (May through September).

Where is it?

The event takes place at North Lake Park, 270 Rae Ave, Mansfield, OH 44903. .See Course page for more details

What does it cost to join in?

Nothing - it's free! but please register before your first run. Only ever register with parkrun once. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won't get a time.

We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!
