MyMidOhio.com joins Al Franken in his fight to preserve Net Neutrality

MANSFIELD, OHIO - Here at MyMidOhio.com we tend not to focus on politics.  Our goal is to focus on strengthening our community through highlighting the best people, places, and things in Mid-Ohio.  However, as the saying goes, "If you don't focus on politics, politics will eventually focus on you.

Net Neutrality is an issue that effects every single person and company who uses the internet today and is one of the backbone principals in which the internet was built.  For those who don't know; Wikipedia defines net neutrality as "Net neutrality (also network neutrality or Internet neutrality) is the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet equally, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, and modes of communication."

Senator Al Franken
                        Senator Al Franken (D)

This principal has come under attack in the past under such names as SOPA and PIPA and has failed.  The issue represents itself again in today's climate as the FTC considers allowing major companies to develop, use, and if they choose they could charge premium fees for what they call "Fast Lanes".

It is our opinion that Internet Service Providers will seek to impose a tiered service model in order to control the pipeline and thereby remove competition, create artificial scarcity, and oblige subscribers to buy their otherwise uncompetitive services.

The senator from Minnesota has taken up the cause.  In his own websites words "Al has become one of the Senate’s foremost champions for consumers, leading the fight to keep cable, Internet, and cell phone rates low; preserve the free flow of information in America; and oppose corporate actions that would threaten our privacy, our anti-trust laws, or our democracy."

We join with him and ask you to sign his petition and let the community declare their voice.
